“One test of the correctness of educational procedure is the happiness of the child”

Our classes

Fundamental to the Montessori approach is the belief that a child’s early years – from birth to six – are the period when they have the greatest capacity to learn.

We run two classes:

TODDLER (18m - 2yrs 8m)

KINDERGARTEN (2yrs 8m – 5 yrs)

Our kindergarten (K1 and K2) students learn and develop together. Our older children love nothing more than being mentors to the younger ones and will often be seen assisting them with an activity, while the younger children become keen observers and learners.

Toddler

This is your child’s first opportunity to experience the independence of the Montessori environment in our beloved “forest school”.

The practical life and sensorial areas are the focus of our mornings as your little ones develop their fine motor skills with simple tasks like pouring water from a jug to a glass, or sorting shapes.

K1

In their first year of kindergarten, your children will learn the Montessori work cycle, where to find all their activities, how to work with their materials and how to form relationships.

They will work keenly in the practical life, sensorial and language areas, and will also begin lessons in astronomy, botony, zoology, history and geography. They will begin to assert their independence, learn to solve problems and develop the motor skills that will help them go on to write and read.

K2

In their second year, your child will be able to set their own targets each morning and enjoy more concentrated periods of self-learning. They will begin to apply concepts they’ve learned at school to the wider community and world around them.

Using the moveable alphabet they will learn phonics and may start to compose words. In mathematics they will master their numbers and be introduced to the idea of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Our curriculum

Using the Montessori principles, LLMK follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS).

There are seven areas of learning and development that are all interconnected:

  1. Communication and language

  2. Personal, social and emotional development

  3. Physical development

  4. Literacy

  5. Mathematics

  6. Understanding the world

  7. Expressive arts and design

Our community and cultural events

As we’re on the path to create socially responsible global citizens, the magic of LLMK comes from our community. We have a wonderfully supportive network of families we’re honoured to work with, but we also take pride in being part of Mui Wo and the wider South Lantau community.

Nothing gives us more joy than when we celebrate cultural events and festivals as a Montessori house. Through real experience of community events in action, our children are given the opportunity to explore diversity and understand the role they play in their immediate surroundings. We thank you for your support.
